In the UK, data published by the NHS, shows that on average, only 28% of adults across both sexes, ate 5 portions or more per day.


That means that 72% of UK adults DO NOT get enough fruit, veg and fibre in their diet. The cornerstones of an energetic and youthful health span.

In the States the numbers are worse. According to a study reported by the CDC (Center For Disease Control) only 13.1% of respondents met fruit intake recommendations and 8.9% met vegetable recommendations. Compared to the high percentage of inflammatory oils, sugar and lectins. The figures need reversing.

Why Do We Need To Eat 5 Portions a Day?

The bottom line is that unless we want to follow the heath patterns of our predecessors, then we need to understand the functional medicine approach, which is to work in synergy with our bodies and feed the trillions of amazing organisms that dwell in and on us, and regulate us, what they need, rather than rely on medical interventions AFTER we hit a problem.

Below we've listed six benefits. All of them are major. But in reality, there are hundreds. It's true! Although we want fruit to play a role in our health and wellbeing it's long been established that whole fruit, low glycemic value fruit is what we need.


This contains the fibre of the fruit as well. It also limits the amount of fructose (sugar) that you have. This is because the average glass of fruit juice, is just that, just juice. Meaning you have to "juice" many fruit to make a glass full.


The average 12oz glass of orange juice contains 12g of sugar. That's 3 teaspoons full.


We won't dwell on it here, but sugar is packed in to our western diet and by default has now become the leading precursor of chronic disease.
